Streams Ideas for Success
WE INTEND TO GET SUPPORT FROM:
The Las Vegas Southwestern Tech Triangle (re-named - TECVEGAS) Is the most recognized gateway to the future in Technology, Aerospace, Education, Business Development, Media, Health, Research, Communications, Transportation And Leisure.
(Insert Map from Business Plan)
The intent of this initiative is to augment the leisure image of Las Vegas to include its current technology component which will in turn attract more businesses and their employees to Las Vegas and the inclusive triangle. In addition, the initiative will connect these businesses to the aerospace & technology enterprises located inside the boundaries of a triangle from Las Vegas to San Luis Obispo, California and from there to San Diego, California and back to Las Vegas.
As well, located inside the triangle are Vandenberg Air Force Base on the Pacific Ocean, Mojave Space Port between Los Angeles and Las Vegas; as well as Edwards, Nellis and Creech Air Force Bases and Area 51. All of the forgoing serve as scientific research facilities and launch bases for space and national defense.
But most importantly, by targeting teaching in the triangle, Science Technology Engineering & Math (STEM), we are nurturing our children who are our brightest future.
Initiatives Supported by Tec Vegas The Triangle is presently anchored in two California corners by two prominent aerospace companies who specialize in leading-edge products for rocket/missile launches and satellites on-orbit. The two companies are Space Information Laboratories LLC of Santa Maria, California and Space Micro Inc. of San Diego California. Both companies have been extremely helpful with integrating the main concepts into this strategic plan, and fully understand what a technical business would be looking for when considering joining forces within the triangle.
In accordance with the research concluded with these companies, the following recommendations are provided:
1) Grant Consortium- An objective of TecVegas is to manifest a very important concept that the California Space Authority (CSA) never managed to do...and that was to facilitate putting together teams for going after projects, and also to be the focal point for a “Grant Consortium”, and have the overview ability to assemble appropriate company teams to go after Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) type opportunities.
2) Space Grant Programs- TecVegas mission is to investigate and promote the State of Nevada, or Las Vegas backing/funding its own “Space Grant Program” within the TecVegas structure--which will have a seed fund to launch local small TEC businesses with innovative ideas...much in the same way CSA provided the triangle’s northern anchor “Space Information Labs” with the first seed funds which led to their prototypes of the Vehicle Based Independent Tracking System (VBITS) which has been the cornerstone of all that company’s success.
3) Proposal and Web Site Development & Writing Assistance- TecVegas also intends to investigate if the seed fund could assist small TEC businesses in covering at least some of the costs involved in writing a robust proposal, or at least provide some reasonable effective help with volunteering experts to ‘look over a shoulder’.
4) Small Business Resource Center-Speaking of SBIR’s http://sbrc.net/., Las Vegas in conjunction with TecVegas intends to investigate the possibility of hosting an upcoming SBIR conference in Las Vegas (and others, such as national AIAA/IEEE/SAME etc. conferences). For example the International Telemetry Conference www.telemetry.org WILL be held in Las Vegas this coming October, and TecVegas along with the governmental entities surrounding Las Vegas need to have a well established presence with this group. For many years these conferences have been alternating between San Diego and Las Vegas...so every other year they call Las Vegas ‘home’. TecVegas intends have a booth at the conference so all the visiting TEC companies can know it exists.
5) Designation of the Tech Triangle-TecVegas will research if there is some designation it could have the City of Las Vegas The State of Nevada and the State of California proclaim, much like the “Free Trade Zone” which was launched in Clark County? Perhaps something like an “Economic Development Zone” within the triangle.
6) Briefing All Agencies in Clark County and the Triangle-TecVegas seeks to brief all city entities such as the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Bureau to let them know what we’re doing and why. Our San Diego anchor company president told the story about how many years ago the city of Reno went out of their way (in a very successful fashion) to attract a TEC component in a similar way to what we’re proposing with TecVegas.
7) Attract Businesses to Nevada for the Economic Benefit of Nevada and California- The Tax advantages of Nevada are pretty evident, however the ideal of them vs. the reality of implementing them are two different things. TecVegas has the EXPERTS at taking the hand of any interested company and working with them to smoothly do a transition which best suits their situation. This will be a reasonably priced or free advisory service of TecVegas which is funded by users, donors or the local city government...and will pay back many times over with future generated economic growth & revenue.
8) Aggregate News Content – By searching for articles and categorizing them TecVegas intends to be a resource of news Articles from around the world discussing scientific breakthroughs and news to keep subscribers informed of the latest advances in Technology, Aerospace, Education, Business Development, Media, Health, Research, Communications, Transportation And The Triangle.

MOJAVE SPACEPORT ORGANIZATION - www.mojaveairport.com
The Mojave Air and Space Port, also known as the Civilian Aerospace Test Center, is located in Mojave, California, which is approximately three
(3) hours from Las Vegas by road (it’s 220 miles), and a designated civilian and government test site. It is also a possible launch site for Space Tourism Vehicles and its proximity to Las Vegas allows the City to
be a destination and pre flight training location for Virgin Galactica and other such endeavors including big city destination resort with the facilities to support such flights. As well Las Vegas can supply the infrastructure for intellectual and residential support for people working and living in Mojave. It is the first facility to be licensed in the United States for horizontal launches of reusable spacecraft, being certified as a spaceport by the Federal Aviation Administration on June 17, 2004.
Flight testing Flight testing activities have been centered at Mojave since the early 1970s, due to the lack of populated areas surrounding the airport. It is also favored for this purpose due to its proximity to the Edwards Air Force Base, where the airspace is restricted from ground level to an unlimited height, and where there is a supersonic corridor. Mojave is also the home of the National Test Pilot School and Scaled Composites the company that made the Virgin Galactica space craft ushering in the era of Space Tourism.
Space industry development Beginning with the Rotary Rocket program, Mojave became a focus for small companies seeking a place to develop space access technologies. Mojave Spaceport has been a test site for several teams in the Ansari X Prize, most notably the Scaled Composites SpaceShipOne, which conducted the first privately funded human sub-orbital flight on June 21, 2004. Other groups based at the Mojave Spaceport include XCOR Aerospace, Masten Space Systems, and Firestar Technologies. Other companies at Mojave include Orbital Sciences Corporation and Interorbital Systems. Most of these companies are supporters of the TecVegas initiative.
Many have incentives to relocate their corporate headquarters to Nevada because of favorable Corporation Laws and tax benefits.
Tax Benefits to Headquartering in Nevada Nevada,
Like the state of Delaware is well known as a corporate haven. Many major corporations are incorporated in Nevada, particularly corporations whose headquarters are located in California and other Western states.
A business need not establish or maintain a physical presence in a state in order to incorporate under the state’s general corporation law. If the corporation transacts business in a state other than the state of incorporation, it is considered by the other state to be a foreign corporation. For example, a business may be headquartered in San Jose, California but incorporated in Nevada. The corporation is a Nevada corporation and the State of California will consider it to be a foreign corporation.
The state can also receive revenues indirectly through businesses (law firms, resident agents, accounts and other service providers) to corporations. The Nevada legislature has tried to make Nevada an attractive alternative to Delaware as a state for incorporation. In many instances, it has tried to “out Delaware” Delaware.
Legal benefits Nevada’s laws offer flexibility to a board of directors in managing the affairs of a corporation, and permit management to put in place strong protection from hostile takeovers. It also provides extremely strong protection against piercing the corporate veil, where a corporation’s owners can be held responsible for the actions of a corporation.
Nevada (unlike other states) permits the corporation’s articles of incorporation to vest authority to adopt, amend or repeal bylaws exclusively in the directors, so that shareholders would not be able to change the corporation’s bylaws.
Tax benefits Nevada’s tax structure is also a large benefit to incorporation in Nevada. Nevada has no franchise tax. It also has no corporate income tax or personal income tax. While Nevada likes to promote that there are “no corporation taxes” in the state, there is an annual $200 “Business License Fee” which is paid to the Secretary of State’s Office at the time of formation or renewal of the corporation. Nevada additionally applies a 1.17% tax on gross wages to most businesses with a payroll over $62,500. Nevada and Texas are the only two states that do not have information sharing agreements with the Internal Revenue Service.
Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base is the home of the Air Force Flight Test Center and is the Air Force Materiel Command center of excellence for conducting and supporting research and developmental flight test and evaluation of aerospace systems from concept to combat. It operates the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and is home to NASA’s Dryden Research Center and considerable test activities conducted by America’s commercial aerospace leaders.
The base has played a significant role in the development of virtually every aircraft to enter the Air Force inventory since World War II. Through developmental flight testing Edwards provides real-time solutions that dramatically increases combat effectiveness through a responsive and tangible link to the warfighter. Almost every United States military aircraft since the 1950s has been at least partially tested at Edwards, and it has been the site of many aviation breakthroughs.
Creech Air Force Base Creech Air Force Base formerly known as Indian Springs Air Force Auxiliary Field, is a United States Air Force base located one mile (2 km) north of the central business district of Indian Springs, in Clark County, Nevada, United States. It is about 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Las Vegas and 45 miles (72 km) northwest of Nellis Air Force Base. It is named in honor of General Wilbur L. “Bill” Creech, known as the “Father of the Thunderbirds”. The host unit is the 432d Wing, which has six operational squadrons, three aviation related maintenance squadron, and MQ-9 Reapers and MQ-1 Predators.
Along with being the aerial demonstration training site for the Thunderbirds, the base plays a major role in the ongoing War on Terror. The base is home to the MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle which is used regularly in Afghanistan and Iraq. The base is also home to the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Battlelab.
Nellis Air Force Base Is a United States Air Force Base, located approximately 7.1 miles (11.4 km) northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is under the jurisdiction of Air Combat Command (ACC). The base is recorded as acensus-designated place for statistical purposes, with a population of 3,187 at the 2010 census.
The 57th Wing provides advanced combat training for composite strike forces, which includes every type of aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Training is commonly conducted in conjunction with air and grounds units of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and allied forces from throughout the world. Nellis also conducts operational testing and develops tactics. The base also supports combat search and rescue and remotely piloted aircraft operations worldwide.
Among the many units assigned to Nellis AFB, it is the home of the United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, “America’s Ambassadors in Blue”. Equipped with the F-16 Fighting Falcon, objectives of the squadron are to demonstrate to the public the professional competence of Air Force members, to support Air Force community relations and people-to-people programs and to support Air Force recruiting and retention programs.
The base itself covers more than 14,000 acres (57 km2), and its vast ranges provide 15,000 square miles (39,000 km2) of airspace for flying operations. Because of its size and breadth of mission, the base is home to more squadrons than any other base in the Air Force. Nellis’s work force of approximately 12,000 military and civilian people makes it one of the largest single employers in southern Nevada.
Nevada National Security Site & Area 51 The Nevada National Security Site is within easy driving distance of Las Vegas. As well at least 4 flights of technical and research staff fly to and from Las Vegas every day on a special chartered 737 to work on top secret projects in Area 51. Las Vegas is the home of many of these people and the scientists who worked on the Atomic weapons testing.
Previously the Nevada Test Site (NTS), is a United States Department of Energy reservation located in southeastern Nye County, Nevada, about 65 mi (105 km) northwest of the city of Las Vegas. Formerly known as the Nevada Proving Grounds.
During the 1950s, the mushroom clouds from these tests could be seen for almost 100 mi (160 km) in either direction, including the city of Las Vegas, where the tests became tourist attractions. Americans headed for Las Vegas to witness the distant mushroom clouds that could be seen from the downtown hotels.
NTS today The test site offers monthly public tours, often fully booked months in advance. Visitors are not allowed to bring in cameras, binoculars, cell phones, or pick up rocks for souvenirs.
Mushroom cloud seen from downtown Las Vegas
Bechtel Nevada Corporation (a joint venture of Lockheed Martin, Bechtel and Johnson Controls) ran this complex until
2006. Several other companies won the latest bid for the contract. They then combined to form a new company called National Security Technologies, LLC (a joint venture of Northrop Grumman, AECOM, CH2M Hill and Nuclear Fuel Services[10]). AECOM, known earlier as Holmes and Narver, held the Nevada Test Site contract for many years before Bechtel Nevada Corp. had it.
Nevada National Security Site Located in southeastern Nye County, Nevada, about 65 mi (105 km) northwest of the city of Las Vegas. The Nevada Test Site contains 28 areas, 1,100 buildings, 400 miles (640 km) of paved roads, 300 miles (480 km) of unpaved roads, ten heliports and two airstrips. The most recent test was a sub-critical test of the properties of plutonium, conducted underground on December 7, 2012.
Area 51 Area 51 (also known as Dreamland, or Groom Lake) is a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base. It is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large military airfield. The base’s current primary purpose is officially undetermined; however, it most likely supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems. Despite the obscurity of the facility, the base has become well known, in large part because of various conspiracy theories involving it and its frequent portrayal in popular culture.Facilities Soviet spy satellites obtained photographs of the Groom Lake area during the height of the Cold War. In addition, civilian remote sensing satellites have produced detailed images of the base and its surroundings which are available via the Internet on sites such as Google Earth and Google Maps. There is no sign at the facility except “U.S. Government” and to “Keep Out”. It is alleged that the facility is operated by civilian government contractor personnel on behalf of the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB, California. It may be an auxiliary airfield for the Groom Lake airfield. In addition to the single runway, there is a small residential compound presumably for the operations staff; The runway, equipped with modern navigation aids, is shown as “closed” on air charts and is marked with an “X” painted on either runway end, however aerial imagery shows the industrial compound has several vehicles parked inside it, and a vehicle parked near the aircraft parking ramp of the airstrip.OXCART program
A-12 during radar testing at Groom Lake
Even before U-2 development was complete, Lockheed began work on its successor as part of the CIA’s OXCART project, involving the A-12, a Mach-3 high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft – a later variant of which became the famed USAF SR-71 Blackbird.
The second YF-12A Interceptor prototype at Groom Lake, Nevada (USAF Photograph)
Groom saw the first flight of most major Blackbird variants: A-12, the abortive YF-12Ainterceptor variant designed to intercept Soviet manned bombers, and the D-21 Blackbird- based drone project. By the end of 1963, nine A-12s
were at Area 51, assigned to the CIA operated “1129th Special Activities Squadron”.[38] A mock-up of the “Reconnaissance Strike-71” (RS-71) was inspected by the Air Force on 4 June 1962. The concept of a strike A-12 with strategic bombing capabilities ran into political problems from both the Air Force, which was involved with the XB-70 Valkyrie program at the time and a lack of enthusiasm from Defense Where the A-12 was designed for clandestine overflights of Soviet territory, the RS-71 carried additional side-looking cameras and other sensors which gave it much greater capabilities. On 27–28 December 1962, a contract was issued to Lockheed to build six test RS-71s.
Portrayal in media and popular culture Novels, films, television programs, and other fictional portrayals of Area 51 describe it—or a fictional counterpart-- as a haven for extraterrestrials, time travel, and sinister conspiracies, often linking it with the Roswell UFO incident. In the 1996 action film Independence Day, the United States military uses alien technology captured at Roswell to attack the invading alien fleet from Area 51. The “Hangar 51”[63] government warehouse of the Indiana Jones films stores, among other exotic items, the Ark of the Covenant and an alien corpse from Roswell. The television series Seven Days takes place inside Area 51, with the base containing a covert NSA time travel operation using alien technology recovered from Roswell.
Area 51 remains a mystery wrapped in an enigma and likely will continue to be that way though certainly Las Vegas residents are employed there, though they can’t talk about it.

You can help kids soar when you donate your time, effort, or financial resources to GKWFA by becoming a sponsor.
GKWFA offers all levels of sponsorship from a donation of $10,000 that will sponsor the complete simulator training and fund a scholarship for career flight training, to a small donation of $100 which will purchase the classroom aviation textbook, E6B Flight computer, and other necessary supplies for a new GKWFA cadet. Volunteers are needed in all areas of the non-profit including mentoring, tutoring in Algebra, Geometry, and Physics. Are you an aviation industry professional? Many students want to become mechanics, aircraft designers, and aviation managers. Anyone with aviation expertise will be a valuable asset to GKWFA.
GKWFA Flight Simulator Ground Program GKWFA offers a complete ground school in flight physics, aircraft systems, meteorology, and FAA regulations to prepare cadets to pass the FAA Private Pilot written exam. As a part of their ground school, cadets apply algebra, geometry, chemistry, and physics in their exciting hands-on training. Students often ask, “When are we ever going to use this?” GKWFA is the answer.
GKWFA Flight Simulator Program GKWFA uses Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and X with Mega Scenery enhancement, along with real yokes and rudder pedals, to provide a realistic flight experience that gives cadets the distinctive opportunity to learn how to pilot an aircraft. Cadets log their simulated flight time and demonstrate their flight proficiency by taking check rides with their instructor in order to earn their virtual private, instrument, and commercial licenses.

Las Vegas Business Advantages
Reasons to Locate Your Company Here
Business Opportunities
• Forbes recently listed Las Vegas as one of the up-and-coming alternatives to Silicon Valley.
• Las Vegas ranked among the top ten cities in the United States to open a
business, according to Entrepreneur Magazine in 2009.
• Las Vegas was rated second among large American cities for business friendliness by
FDI Magazine, a division of the
Financial Times Ltd., in 2011.
“Watch out Silicon Valley: You have competition just next door. The Nevada desert -- Las Vegas in particular -- is becoming a popular landing spot for tech firms large and small.” – CNN
undergoing a rebirth. More than 80 businesses/organizations relocated, opened
or expanded/upgraded here in fiscal year 2012 alone.
• At least 14 new high-tech startups opened in downtown over the past year.
• Home to the headquarters of retail giant, Zappos.com.
• Home to Switch, the world’s largest and most powerful data center and technology ecosystem. Switch clients include eBay, Pixar, Dell, Cisco, Fox, Sony, MGM and many more.
• Networking and co-working opportunities downtown for high-tech professionals.
• $50 million venture capital seed fund created to provide funding for qualified tech startups willing to relocate to downtown Las Vegas.
• Business incentives available through the city of Las Vegas:
• Rehabilitation assistance for existing buildings: Quick Start Program offering up to $50,000 grants.
• New construction assistance: Visual Improvement Program and Tax Increment Financing.
• Fast-track permitting and licensing aid.
• Centrally located business location:
• Las Vegas offers a market area of more than 51 million people within one day’s drive.
• Convenient Western U.S. location near other key high-tech markets such as Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Salt Lake City and Denver.
• Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport is the eighth busiest airport in the United States. With more than 30 air carriers, McCarran provides nonstop service to domestic and worldwide destinations, helping you quickly meet your business needs.
Lifestyle
• Affordable housing in the Las Vegas Valley: Median home price: $123,780 or $68 per square foot. Average monthly rent: $746.
• A range of new housing is proposed for the downtown area. Downtown residential units for upwardly mobile people are now in high demand.
“Ten thousand new upwardly mobile
people in downtown in five years.”
– goal of Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh. Hsieh has taken a personal, as well as a business, interest in the revitalization of downtown Las Vegas.
• Downtown Las Vegas ranked among America’s ten great urban neighborhoods by Richard Florida, author of
The Rise of the Creative Class and a professor at the University of Toronto.
• Ample entertainment, shopping and lifestyle opportunities.
• More than 310 days of sunshine per year. Mild, sunny winters and low humidity year-round. The Las Vegas
inland desert area is virtually free of tornados and ice storms.
• A metropolitan area, almost 2 million people live in the Las Vegas Valley.
• A Harris poll conducted in 2010 ranked Las Vegas as the third most popular U.S. city in which people would like to live in or near.
“My wife and I could move anywhere in the country, but we choose to live in the city of Las Vegas - specifically downtown
- because we love it. We are part of something special that is only happening here and now, and can never be duplicated in another time or place. We get to participate in the next great evolution of this city... Nowhere
else does this kind of excitement,
energy and opportunity exist.”
– Michael Cornthwaite
